Metabase Reporting
Metabase is an alternative to Power BI for reports and Dashboards. You’ll see this increasingly used for Dashboards and on Ethos TV.
What happens to Power BI?
Power BI reports are being reviewed.
- Any unused reports will be removed
- Any required reports will either be migrated to Metabase or updated in Power BI (for minor updates)
- For any major changes the report will likely be updated into Metabase
NB: eventually Metabase will replace all Power BI reports.

Navigating Metabase
Collections

Inside collections you’ll find Dashboards and Questions.
Searching
At the top right is a search box. Use this to find Dashboards or content.
NB: this is limited by your permissions.
About the Metabase structure
Databases
Metabase is connected to our database. It has read access to data we sync from Prime and all the Make Safe app data (and any other future data).
Questions
From the database you can create questions. These are view of the data in a table, chart, pivot; optionally with a filter.
Dashboards
Dashboards are collections of Questions shown with common filters. There a little more to it but you can then drill down to other Dashboards or questions.
Managing your Dashboards
There three main ways to get to your Dashboard
Bookmarks in Metabase
From the Metabase portal; use a bookmark. This will place your Dashboard or question in the menu under Bookmarks.
Browser Bookmarks (in Chrome)
When viewing a Dashboard the filters you use are reflected in the report URL/address. When you save the bookmark in your browser; the filter is saved as well.
This allows you to save common filters for quick access
Subscriptions
You can schedule reports to be emailed to you. Click subscriptions, Email and configure your subscription.
NB: the emailed report doesn’t allow filtering like using the website but may be useful to capture point in time reports.
Troubleshooting
Contact the IT Team if you have questions about reports and access.
Access from outside of the office
When accessing reports (either via the login or a sharing link) you will need to login via Microsoft 365 first.
NB: this is the same username and password as your Laptop, Email and SharePoint.
Forgotten your password?
If you have forgotten your password you can request a link to reset it when logging in.
If you have issues please contact IT.
NB: in general only Managers need a login. You don’t need a login for Report links shared on SharePoint.
